Pediatric Orthopaedics
Our pediatric orthopaedists specialize in treating children and adolescents with a variety of complex and acute orthopaedic conditions. In addition to general pediatric orthopaedics, our physicians specialize in:
- Spinal deformities
- Gait analysis recommendations and follow-up care
- Hip-related concerns
- Cerebral palsy
- Foot abnormalities
- Sports medicine and acute fractures
Rehabilitation Medicine
Pediatric rehabilitation medicine specialists focus on the growth and development of children and adolescents. They treat the medical problems specific to each child's disability. Our specialists have expertise in restoring physical function, relieving pain and minimizing the effects of a disability. They prescribe braces, wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment; provide spasticity management services; and offer consultations regarding therapy and community programs and resources.
Rehabilitation Therapies
Our Rehabilitation Therapies staff – including physical, occupational and speech therapists – works closely with our physicians to provide specialized evaluations and treatments for patients with conditions such as cerebral palsy and brain injuries. Our physical therapists help develop a child's motor skills, balance, coordination and speech. In addition, our staff provides educational resources for families, consults with community providers, evaluates patients' needs for adaptive equipment and recommends adaptive equipment.
Spasticity Evaluations
Children with cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries or a spinal-cord injuries may have spasticity (muscles that are too stiff). Although spasticity isn't curable, it can be treated or managed.
Because managing spasticity is a complex process that can include many treatment options, a team of professionals evaluates each child. Each team includes a neurosurgeon, pediatric rehabilitation medicine physician, orthopaedic surgeon and physical therapist. Each team member plays an important role in evaluating each patient and recommending treatment.
At Gillette, our mission is to help those we serve realize greater well-being, independence and enjoyment in life. We respect and maintain the role of the patient's primary-care provider. We also recognize that the patients' families and caregivers are the prime decision-makers.
