The ImPACT Test

To obtain results of a previous baseline ImPACT test, please call Suzanne Constantini, Manager, Outpatient Services at 651-229-3903.

Baseline Tests vs. Post-Injury Tests

It is important to understand the difference between a baseline ImPACT test and a post-injury ImPACT test. The baseline test is intended solely to be taken prior to any injury and is used to compare pre-injury assessment scores to post-injury assessment scores.

Taking an on-line baseline test after an injury occurs will not provide valid results. Post-injury tests can only be taken at a clinic or facility certified as an ImPACT provider. Follow the link to locate a certified ImPACT consultant in your area: http://impacttest.com/index.php/doctors/all

Evaluating an Injury

It is also important to realize that the ImPACT test is only one component of a post-injury assessment to determine the severity of an injury, recovery, and readiness to return to activities. A careful and thorough assessment is done by a healthcare professional trained in evaluating head and neck injuries. It is important to assess the extent of the injury and an individual’s readiness to return to activities.

The following statement is provided by ImPACT related to their baseline tests:

The information provided by this report should be viewed as only one source of information regarding an individual’s level of (neurocognitive) functioning. Even though ImPACT is based on demonstrated scientific principles and research, external factors, such as improper test administration or improper test taking environment may result in inaccurate test results. These factors, and others, must be considered in making return-to-play decisions. The information provided by this report is of a general nature and does not represent medical advice, a diagnosis or prescription for treatment. Additionally, diagnostic or return to play decisions should not be based solely on the data generated by this report, but on an in-person evaluation made by a professional trained in concussion management in accordance with usual and standard medical practice. An individual suspected of suffering a traumatic brain injury or concussion should immediately seek the advice of qualified and trained personnel for interpretation of test results and should be monitored closely for the emergence of symptoms. ImPACT is not responsible for any decision based on information contained in the report. A test-taker’s qualified and trained personnel has the sole responsibility for establishing diagnosis and suggesting appropriate treatment.

Taking the ImPACT Baseline Test On-line

At this time, we have taken down the on-line baseline test from our Website. It is recommended that all baseline tests be completed in a proctored or supervised environment. If you have previously purchased a block of tests for your school or organization, please call Paul Fiore 651-229-1716.
