There are no more teen opportunities
available  for the summer.

Volunteering at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare is a rewarding experience that you’ll remember forever.

We need volunteers in several areas. Would you like to help out at our hospital? Work on special events? Interact directly with patients and families?

To learn more about our volunteer activities, just check out the opportunities listed below! And if you have a special skill or interest that isn’t reflected here, let us know. Other opportunities might be available.

For more information, contact Paula Cronquist, Volunteer Services manager, at:

At Gillette locations

Although we need most volunteers at our St. Paul clinic, we also offer volunteer positions at our other clinics. If you’d prefer to volunteer in Burnsville, Minnetonka or Maple Grove — or at Gillette Lifetime Specialty Healthcare, our clinic for adult patients, please ask about opportunities at those locations.

Greeters

Greeters welcome families to our St. Paul clinic and help them find their way around the hospital. Whether you’re pointing a family in the right direction or escorting a family directly to their appointment, you’ll provide valuable assistance to the patients and families we serve. We’re looking for greeters at our main information desk on the fourth floor, as well as on our third floor space.

Working with children

  • In our Family Resource Center, you’ll help families find information online or in our library. You’ll also have the opportunity to read, play games or watch videos with children who are waiting for their appointments. Our Family Resource Center volunteers need basic computer skills and familiarity with the Internet.
  • You can help entertain hospitalized children by spending time with them individually or in small groups. Playing a game, going for a walk in the hospital — or even having a friendly face to talk to — can brighten a child’s day. You must be at least 18.
  • Feeling artistic? We need volunteers to offer simple arts-and-crafts projects to patients and their siblings who are waiting for a clinic appointment. Crafts provide a great opportunity to interact with children and families.

Clerical support

  • We always need help entering data into our computer systems, filing records, updating mailing lists, stuffing envelopes and answering phones. Typing and computer skills are helpful, but not required.
  • If you’re a pharmacy student, we may have volunteer opportunities in our St. Paul clinic pharmacy. As a pharmacy volunteer, you’ll greet families who need prescriptions, file records, restock shelves and check expiration dates. You’ll also help with audits and one-time projects. You must be a current pharmacy student and be willing to make a six-month commitment.

A bit of everything

  • In our Rehabilitation Therapies department, you’ll escort patients to and from therapy sessions. You’ll help provide age-appropriate diversions and spend time with children awaiting their appointments. You’ll also support the department by making copies and running errands.
    Weekdays
    Saturday mornings
  • Our Radiology volunteers keep patients and their families updated on the status of their examinations. You’ll also transport X-ray films and run other errands during our busiest times.
    Monday through Thursday mornings
    Monday through Wednesday afternoons

Raising Funds

Through our affiliation with Children’s Miracle Network, our own Gillette Children’s Foundation, and the Friends of Gillette volunteer group, you can help plan and execute special events and take part in other fund-raising efforts. Hours and locations are flexible.

Opportunities might include:

  • Selling tickets to the annual Friends of Gillette benefit event
  • Soliciting donations and corporate support for fund-raisers
  • Obtaining donations for benefit auctions
  • Working on event programs and newsletters
  • Planning all types of events, from golf tournaments to receptions
  • Helping out during fund-raisers
