Gillette’s Center for Gait and Motion Analysis (Gait Lab) uses state-of-the-art computer technology to evaluate and develop effective treatments for movement problems. We strive to help our patients maximize their physical abilities and achieve greater health and independence. Because movement problems require ongoing evaluation and treatment, we also serve older teen and adult patients at Gillette Lifetime Specialty Healthcare.

The busiest clinical center for motion analysis in the nation, we perform more than 600 movement evaluations each year. Our doctors were among the first in the world to use motion analysis in treating children with walking and movement problems. Our commitment to excellence continues today in our ongoing training, motion analysis research and high quality clinical care.

Our Team Approach

Conditions involving the muscles, joints, nerves and bones frequently cause difficulty with walking and movement. Because movement issues are complex – and because every patient’s needs are unique – our team of experts use a collaborative approach that puts families at the center of the care team. To help families become informed and involved, we thoroughly explain the process of motion analysis and its effect on treatment outcomes.

About Motion Analysis

An evaluation in our Center for Gait and Motion Analysis captures movements, muscle activity and forces that the eye can’t see. Although some people have similar walking patterns, the way their muscles and joints work together can be very different.

Motion Analysis for Complex Conditions

Patients with complex conditions involving the spinal chord, muscles, joints and bones frequently experience movement problems. Motion analysis helps our specialists recommend the best treatments for abnormal movement. Options may include braces, medication, physical therapy or surgery. We see patients who have:

Motion Analysis for the Lower Extremities

Many of our patients have lower extremity issues that impact movement, such as:

Motion Analysis for the Upper Extremities

Although our specialists use motion analysis primarily to understand walking problems, Gait Lab technology also can measure movement of the arms and hands. Doctors and therapists use the data to recommend treatments that improve abilities and increase upper extremity function.

Adult Care

Older teens and adults with complex conditions frequently need ongoing evaluations and treatment. Some are having motion analysis for the first time because, as they've grown older, their conditions have begun causing pain and stiffness. Others have experienced movement problems since childhood.
