Pediatric rehabilitation nurses are part of life-changing journeys towards physical and emotional recovery for the patients and families in our care.

The rehabilitation unit is different than other areas of the hospital, because rehabilitation nursing has different goals than other fields of nursing. Instead of providing for the needs and comfort of a child in an acute medical or post-surgical situation, rehabilitation nurses assist patients and families along their journey towards independence. We challenge our patients to be as independent as possible in their self-care and partner with families to provide for the new needs of their children as they get ready to transition back into community life.

At Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare, everyday tasks present opportunities for rehabilitation for our patients and education for their families. For rehabilitation nurses, this looks like giving kids medications, equipment changes, cares and encouragement as they do what kids do best—play.
