Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM) Breakthrough is Good News for Gillette PatientsA researcher from the University of Minnesota has identified a virus associated with acute flaccid myelitis (AFM), a rare, polio-like disorder that can cause sudden paralysis in children. Most of the Minnesota children diagnosed with AFM last fall received treatment at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. The patients, who came from across Minnesota, were cared for by several teams of Gillette providers including the pediatric rehabilitation medicine team, several pediatric neurologists, and many rehabilitation therapists.

Fibular Hemimelia and the Fast, Full Life of Eli BrummondApril 14 was a rainy night at Target Field, but the rain didn’t stop the thousands in attendance from rising to their feet to cheer as Eli Brummond, 11, flew towards home plate. He was moving fast enough that you wouldn’t necessarily notice at first. Eli’s left leg is missing from just below his knee and he wears a prosthesis.
