Radiology and Imaging

People who have disabilities and complex conditions deserve radiology and advanced imaging services designed specifically for their needs. At Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare, we’re experts at providing imaging tests for children, teens and adults who have physical and cognitive (thinking and learning) disabilities.

By offering sedation services, positive distractions (techniques to calm and distract patients) and specialized equipment, we create an environment that supports the best possible care for our patients. Through Gillette Lifetime Specialty Healthcare, we continue providing care for patients whose needs continue into adulthood. Gillette is accredited by the American College of Radiology.

Our Facilities

Gillette Advanced Imaging—located on our St. Paul Campus—includes a variety of features to reduce stress and ensure proper care for children who have disabilities, complex conditions and serious injuries. In addition, radiology and imaging services at all of our locations feature specialized equipment and the skills of highly trained experts.

Positive Distractions

Positive distractions are video, sound and lighting features that help calm and relax patients during tests and procedures. Many of our rooms are equipped with those features to help patients relax and remain still. In many cases, patients can choose which images they want to see during their tests.

Sedation Services

In cases where positive distractions are insufficient or a patient’s disabilities or pain might interfere with the successful completion of a test, we offer sedation services. Advanced Imaging is located adjacent to our surgery suites to make it easy to provide sedation and monitor patients during testing.

Respiratory Support

Many of our patients require respiratory support while undergoing imaging tests and diagnostic procedures. Gillette’s respiratory therapy team provides expert care during procedures to ensure the highest standards of safety.

Specialized Equipment and Skills

Gillette’s facilities feature specialized lifts and equipment for people who have disabilities, complex conditions and serious injuries. Our full-length X-ray equipment produces high-quality images that help in diagnosing scoliosis and other spinal deformities. In addition, our technologists are experts at performing imaging tests for people who use seating systems or wear metal fixators following limb-length surgery.

Low Radiation Equipment

Gillette’s advanced equipment minimizes radiation exposure while ensuring high-quality imaging—a significant benefit for patients whose conditions might require frequent imaging tests.
