Gillette Children’s hospital and clinic locations are situated on the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabe, Bdwakantunwan, Sisistunwan, Wahpekute, Wahpetunwan, and Ho-Chunk peoples. We recognize the relationship between Indigenous people and the land on which our hospital, clinics, and non-clinical locations stand.

The Anishinaabe, Bdwakantunwan, Sisistunwan, Wahpekute, Wahpetunwan, and Ho-Chunk people have stewarded, cared for, and respected this land, its waters, and all living beings that call it home. We honor the history, culture, and ongoing presence of Indigenous peoples, as well as Indigenous contributions to the rich tapestry of our community.

We acknowledge the painful legacy of colonization, displacement, broken treaties, and assimilations that impact Indigenous people. We recognize enduring strength and resilience in the face of centuries of adversity.

As a children’s hospital, we are committed to promoting health and wellbeing for children and their families. We are committed to creating an equitable, inclusive, anti-racist environment where all patients, families, visitors, and team members feel welcome and a sense of belonging.

We commit ourselves to learning from and working in partnership with Indigenous communities to address health disparities and ensure equitable access to healthcare services. In the next year, Gillette Children’s will dedicate resources to assure Gillette Children’s team members are equipped to deliver culturally responsive care and will launch a focused effort to examine our patient experience surveys to understand Indigenous populations’ experience within our system. We commit to making changes based on that feedback. We recognize that healing requires a deep respect for cultural diversity, traditional knowledge, and the rights of Indigenous peoples.

In this spirit, we acknowledge the land, the people, and the ongoing journey toward healing and justice. Gillette Children’s commits to interrupting this legacy of oppression and to continuing on a path of understanding, compassion, and solidarity as we strive towards a better future.
