Gillette Children’s specializes in providing care to patients with complex medical needs, particularly diagnoses affecting the brain, bones, and movement.

Amongst the many ways to receive care at Gillette Children’s, we offer consultative care services with our expert physical, occupational, and speech therapists. The purpose of consultative care is to proactively ensure that each patient has all the tools they need to meet their personal goals and fully engage within their environment.

What does consultative care look like?

Every plan of care is uniquely based on the individual and will typically involve intermittent check-ins to proactively monitor developmental progress, equipment needs, and/or support access to specialty care services and treatment options.

For example, a patient could have an evaluation with a Gillette therapist, who would assess current skills and equipment needs, and then provide guidance and strategies for continuing to meet milestones. The therapist would work with you to determine an appropriate time to check back in (e.g., 3 months, 4 months, 6 months, and so on) to ensure you continue to have all the tools you need to meet your goals.

If you are currently working with local providers in your community, our staff is able to partner with those providers to maximize your care and build bridges in communities across Minnesota and beyond.

This service is offered for both in-person and virtual therapy visits.

How do I get started?

Please reach out to your primary care provider to discuss if consultative care could be a good option for you. A physician order is needed before an evaluation with a therapist can occur. Check with your insurance provider regarding coverage.
