What is Peristeen Plus Transanal Irrigation?

Peristeen Plus Transanal Irrigation is a prescription-only tool for bowel management to help improve bowel control (continence) and make it easier to pass stool for people with neurogenic bowel dysfunction.

How is Peristeen Plus Transanal Irrigation used?

First, the rectal catheter is inserted into the rectum. Next, the attached balloon is inflated to hold the catheter in place and create a seal as tap water is pumped into the lower colon to clear stool out of the bowel and out of your body. It is indicated for use by children (ages 2 and up) and adults with neurogenic bowel dysfunction who deal with poor bowel control, chronic constipation, and/or time-consuming bowel management routines.
