Koop received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Minnesota/Minneapolis Veteran’s Administration Hospital, and a pediatric orthopedic fellowship at Newington Children’s Hospital in Newington, Conn. In addition to his work at Gillette, Koop is an associate professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical School.

Koop’s professional associations include the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, the American Orthopaedic Association, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
