About Caroline Hu, MD

Caroline Hu, MD, is a dual fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who cares for both children and adults with conditions of the hand and upper extremity. She completed two specialized fellowships following her residency: the Harvard Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital, and the Pediatric Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship at Gillette Children’s and the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Hu is an accomplished researcher with contributions to more than a dozen peer-reviewed publications, along with book chapters and numerous national and international presentations. Much of her work focuses on congenital upper limb differences and brachial plexus birth injury, including research drawn from the national Congenital Upper Limb Differences (CoULD) Registry, where she serves as a site investigator. Her scholarship has been recognized with awards including the University of Minnesota Gustilo Research Resident Award for Best Scientific Paper and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand Mary S. Stern Scholarship.

In addition to clinical care, Dr. Hu is an active educator who lectures in the University of Minnesota orthopedic surgery residency and hand fellowship programs and serves as the Gillette site lead for the City-Wide Hand Conference. She was selected for the American Orthopaedic Association Emerging Leaders Program and has been a longtime mentor with The Perry Initiative, encouraging young women to pursue careers in orthopedics and engineering.
