The Gillette Children’s Healthcare Press book, Scoliosis: Congenital, Neuromuscular, Syndromic, and Other Nonidiopathic Types has been recognized in the Health Category of the Eric Hoffer Book Award with an Honorable Mention

Scoliosis Topic for Gillette Children’s Healthcare Series

Scoliosis is part of the Gillette Children’s Healthcare Series; a collection of nine books focused on childhood-acquired physical and neurological conditions. Each book provides a detailed medical explanation of a specific condition, its evidence-based best-practice treatments, and includes the lived experience of families. Below are the judge’s comments about the book:

Scoliosis: Congenital, Neuromuscular, Syndromic, and Other Nonidiopathic Types, Tenner J. Guillaume, MD, Walter H. Truong, MD, Danielle H. Harding, PA –C, Lily Collison, MA, MSc, Cheryl Tveit, RN, MSN, CNML, Gillette Children's Healthcare Press – As with other books in the Gillette Children's Healthcare Press series, Scoliosis received high marks. The Table of Content is clear, and the book is well laid out. Chapters all begin with a summary introduction, and each chapter contains a "QR" code for additional investigation. The authors present a "how this book is organized" section to assist navigation through an otherwise complicated discussion. Illustrations are clearly presented and supported with definitions and hearty explanations. The book contains unfolding case studies that support chapter information. Chapters are intelligently summarized at the end. Further Reading and Research sections, as well as a glossary and an extensive reference list, reinforce their authority. Overall, this is a clearly well–researched study.

The Eric Hoffer Book Award

The Eric Hoffer Book Award is one of the largest international awards for independent and small-press publishing, including Academic presses. Named after the American philosopher Eric Hoffer, the award honors excellence in writing and recognizes noteworthy books that often fall outside the mainstream publishing spotlight.

Each year, over 2500 books are considered across multiple categories, with a small percentage selected for distinction, including Grand Prize, category winners, finalists, and honorable mentions.

Earning this recognition means the book ranks in the top 10% of submissions, placing it among a select group celebrated for its quality, originality, and impact.
