The holiday season is a time for warmth, connection, and meaningful gifts. The Gillette Healthcare Press is pleased to offer a variety of books that inspire, empower, and educate. Give the gift of knowledge this holiday season.

For Children

It’s Okay to Ask!

“It’s Okay to Ask!” introduces five children who have disabilities or complex medical conditions. They love to read, play, tell jokes, and make friends. As you get to know the characters in the book and learn that it’s okay to ask questions, you will discover that everyone is more alike than you might think and that people of all abilities can be friends.

Proud To Be Me

“Proud To Be Me” teaches children about physical differences. Whether it's a surgery that gave them a thumb, a guide dog that helps them see, or a prosthesis that lets them run, this book teaches children to love and accept themselves for who they are. This board book uses simple text and colorful illustrations to encourage children to be proud of their differences.

For Adolescents and Adults

Pure Grit

“Pure Grit” features nineteen people from across the globe, ranging in age from twenty to seventy-plus, and their stories of living and thriving in diverse fields — in sport, the arts, medicine, business and more. With refreshing frankness, they share their successes along with their struggles — grit is the one characteristic they all have in common. These are not stories of people overcoming disability — they’re stories of people accommodating disability while pursuing their dreams.

Gillette Children’s Healthcare Series

A collection of books focused on childhood-acquired physical and neurological conditions. Each book provides a detailed medical explanation of a specific condition, its evidence-based best-practice treatments, and includes the lived experience of families. Since the majority of people with these conditions have them for life, the life course is addressed including transition and aging issues. These books are invaluable not only for families but also for healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, and students. Titles in this series include:

  • Idiopathic Scoliosis
  • Epilepsy
  • Spastic Quadriplegia
  • Spastic Hemiplegia
  • Spastic Diplegia
  • Craniosynostosis
  • Scoliosis: Congenital, Neuromuscular, Syndromic, and Other Nonidiopathic Types

All proceeds from book sales go to fund research at Gillette Children’s.
