Meet Us Monday – Meet Sarah, RN
1. What are some of your hobbies outside of work?
My family is one of my biggest hobbies – and seems to not leave room for much else. My husband and I are so very into our son, Oliver. He’s 14 months old, and doing new things all the time. I’m obsessed with keeping him safe. Maybe it’s my line of work that leads to that?? We both have a recent love for paddle boards and enjoy biking while carting Ollie in the Chariot behind us. And, no matter how busy I am, I always seem to squeeze in an episode of Real Housewives on BRAVO.
2. If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?
If I could choose a superpower – selfishly I would choose to be able to keep my son safe from all harm. (I’m a little overboard with safety these days). However, I’m aware that my plans for my family’s life are not the best, and I need to learn to be more trusting!
3. What is your favorite food?
My favorite food of all times would be pizza – any kind! I would rather have to eat that for every meal for the rest of my life, than to never be able to eat it again.
4. If you could travel anywhere, where would you?
My husband and I are interested in going to Kenya. I’ve been to that area 3 times, and feel like I’ve left a piece of my heart there, and will be forever changed by those experiences. We would like to go back as a family.
5. What’s your favorite type of music?
I really enjoy a wide variety, but my two staples are a blend between listening to Christian music and the top 40. Very non-exciting.
6. Do you have a memory at Gillette that you want to share?
One of my favorite memories from Gillette comes from the earlier part of my seven years. I was a part of the core group of nurses caring for a teenage boy who was critically injured. His injuries were such that they were not life sustaining, and his parents whole-heartedly chose and embraced organ donation for him. His parents and his siblings were thrust into this situation and handled everything with such grace. It was an incredible honor to be such a close part of this family’s life during their time here at Gillette. I like to think we made a lifelong impact in how they remember their son’s last moments, as well as be a big part of someone else’s life that was going to be affected forever by receiving the gift of organ donation. It will be imprinted on my heart forever.
7. What do you enjoy most about your job at Gillette?
I really enjoy my job! My favorite part is the patient’s we serve at Gillette. In every phase of my life, I have appreciated our patient population in a new way. Gillette also has such a great group of nurses who also have such a high work ethic. Being around this type of motivation really makes my job so enjoyable.
