About Deborah Bohn, MD
Deborah C. Bohn, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in conditions of the hand and upper extremity in children and adults. She is recognized regionally and nationally for her clinical work, having been named a Top Doctor by both Mpls.St.Paul Magazine and Minnesota Monthly across multiple years.
Dr. Bohn has contributed to the Congenital Upper Limb Difference (CoULD) national study group, enrolling more than 650 patients in a database that has produced over 30 published studies. Much of her research focuses on congenital hand differences, pediatric upper extremity fractures, and quality improvement, including widely cited work on reducing opioid prescribing after hand surgery. She is the co-author, with Ann Van Heest, MD, of the children’s book Proud to Be Me, published by Gillette Children’s Healthcare Press.
In addition to clinical care, Dr. Bohn is the James House, MS, MD Endowed Professor in Hand Surgery and a Professor in the University of Minnesota Department of Orthopedic Surgery, where she also serves as Medical Student Clerkship Director. A dedicated educator, she has been honored with the John Song Distinguished Mentoring Award, the Alpha Omega Alpha Outstanding Faculty Award, the M Physicians Clinical Excellence Award, and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery Teacher of the Year Award, selected by graduating residents.
Dr. Bohn is an active member of numerous professional organizations including the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. She also participates in global health outreach, providing upper extremity surgical care to children and adults internationally, including annual trips to Honduras. She is board certified in orthopedic surgery and holds a subspecialty certificate in surgery of the hand.
