ST PAUL, MN – Haley Brunelle, Gillette Children’s Family Engagement in Research Coordinator, received the 2025 Paula F. Goldberg Champion for Children with Disabilities Award. This award honors the legacy of longtime PACER Center executive director, Paula F. Goldberg, and recognizes an individual or group who has demonstrated exceptional advocacy and leadership in support of the rights of children with disabilities.
Brunelle accepted the award at the PACER Annual Gala alongside family and friends, including Gillette colleagues, Internal Medicine and Pediatric Physician, Tori Bahr, MD, FAAP, Clinical Scientist and Health Services Research Program Lead Rhonda Cady, PhD, RN, and Clinical Research Coordinator Meghan Gallagher, MPH.
“This award recognizes visionary leadership, persistent advocacy, and a commitment to building a better world for children with disabilities—and I accept it with deep gratitude for the mentors, families, and fierce advocates who’ve paved the way,” Brunelle said.
Brunelle's work is rooted in her experience managing care for her son, Felix, who lives with a rare genetic condition. In addition to her work at Gillette, she has advocated for adult changing tables to be required in new construction buildings, hosts a podcast – Rarely Familiar - where parents of medically complex kids share their stories, and teaches yoga classes to adults with disabilities.
In nominating Brunelle for this award, Cady spoke to the impact of Brunelle’s work, noting, “Haley has taught our research teams how to authentically partner with [families] and embrace open, honest communication and ‘outside the box’ ideas. Her vision is directly impacting the care and quality of life for children with disabilities.”
