When COVID first came to Minnesota and things started shutting down, we were concerned that our son, Wes, who is 8 Years old and has cerebral palsy, would not get the care that he would need.
But that hasn’t been our experience.
When we went to Wes’ first appointment during the era of COVID, we were not sure what to expect. I told Wes that things would look a little differently than they would normally, and that his doctors and therapists he sees would be wearing masks and other protective equipment, and that he would need to do the same.
After that appointment, it was clear we were still in the same place.Wes likes coming to Gillette and one of the nice things about being there is that it’s given him a bit of a sense of things getting back to normal. He’s seeing the doctors and therapists he’s been seeing for years and though it’s still not a normal time, being able to do more of the things he did before COVID has been helpful.
Wes has had several significant procedures during the past year and a half at Gillette and has continued in his rehabilitation and therapy appointments, both virtually and in-person.
During this odd time where so many things changed, knowing that Gillette was still there for Wes has been a tremendous comfort.
