We are Gillette Children’s.
We have a vision of a world in which every child is able to create their own story.
Through our clinical expertise, research, and compassion, we collaborate with families and partners to redefine what is possible for children who have brain, bone, and movement conditions.
Gillette Children’s marks our 125th anniversary this year. Founded in October 1897, we became the first hospital in the U.S. to treat children who have disabilities.
Milestones are a time for reflection and an opportunity to appreciate the past, embrace the present, and chart the future. As we approached this point in our development, we engaged stakeholders from across the Gillette Children’s community to shape a new mission statement to better reflect our commitment to our patients and the desire to broaden our reach as a global leader and advocate for children.
As part of this renewed goal, we simplified our name a bit—we are now officially Gillette Children’s.
We also refreshed our look and logo. You’ll see it on our website, in communications, and on signs at our clinics and hospitals.
Although the look is modernized, our focus remains remarkably constant. At Gillette Children’s, our emphasis on brain, bone, and movement conditions offers patient families, community supporters, and medical providers a plain-language description that represents the majority—but not all—of our clinical care work.
A branding focus inspired by a parent
Gillette Children’s President and CEO, Barbara Joers, says part of this branding focus was inspired by a Gillette parent who expressed appreciation for how our care touched her daughter’s and her family’s life.
“I’m grateful for her words and for many other perspectives which informed this work,” Joers says. “Our new vision, ‘A world in which every child is able to create their own story,’ was directly inspired by that parent.”
A foundational promise
This commitment to children drives all that we do for every child and family who comes through our doors. Gillette Children’s began with Dr. Arthur Gillette’s promise to the parents of our first patient, Royal Gray. He promised the Grays their son would receive excellent care. The assurance of expert care and a partnership to help find the answers and medical solutions is deeply embedded in our culture.
This longstanding dedicated focus has created a unique expertise that is unmatched by any other healthcare system. We take our place as a beacon of care, hope, and opportunity for children to create the lives they choose.
Today, we are building on Dr. Gillette’s foundational promise, and we work to ensure that every child who has complex conditions can reach their full potential.
As we begin our next 125 years, Gillette Children’s will continue to expand our care, research, and technological discoveries. We’ll strengthen relationships and reach out to the world to serve more families. We are determined to have a positive impact on the quality of life for all children.
It is a new chapter. The start of a new era. We have a new look and simplified name to propel us forward. Thank you for taking this journey with us and for your support.
