NCQA Patient Centered Specialty Practice Recognition

Earlier this year we received notice from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) that we have achieved Patient Centered Specialty Practice (PCSP) Recognition for our orthopedic practice at our St. Paul campus. The NCQA has now expanded that recognition to include our metro clinics as well: Maple Grove Clinic and Burnsville Clinic. We’re the first pediatric health care organization in Minnesota and our surrounding states to claim this distinction.

This recognition means Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare promotes a model of community partnership and sustainability, focuses on proactive care planning and sharing of information internally and externally. It means our patients and families have the expertise they need to advance their care.

Gillette Not Participating in 2017-2018 U.S. News & World Report “Best Children’s Hospitals” Survey

February 1, 2017

For the second consecutive year, Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare has chosen not to participate in the “Best Children’s Hospitals” survey process.

Gillette serves children who have statistically uncommon and complex medical conditions impacting their musculoskeletal or neurological systems—a small but important percentage of pediatric patients. As a result, our services can’t always be accurately compared to full service, general acute care children’s hospitals. Due to our concentrated focus, we intentionally don’t offer all of the components of a traditional children’s hospital, such as an emergency room.

We pride ourselves on the quality of care we provide and the recognition we receive. Gillette is the only pediatric hospital in Minnesota to hold the prestigious Beacon Award from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, acknowledgment of our exceptional outcomes and patient satisfaction. In 2016 Gillette became one of just eight inpatient rehabilitation facilities in the U.S. with Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accreditation for both a pediatric specialty program and a brain injury specialty program. We also received recognition, from Rettsyndrome.org, as one of only 14 Rett Syndrome Clinical Research Centers of Excellence in the country. We continue our involvement and leadership in the Children’s Hospitals Solutions for Patient Safety collaborative.

While we’re pleased to have been consistently ranked in the past in our core areas of orthopedics and neurology and neurosurgery, the scope of the survey and the resources required to complete it continue to grow. Gillette will continue to evaluate the U.S. News survey process each year, and determine whether our participation is a critical factor in supporting our care model.  As always, our top priority will be providing the best possible care to our patients and their families.
