Gillette Children’s offer many different specialists who are experts in the treatment of complex conditions that affect a baby’s developing brain and body.
What is neonatal specialty care?
Neonatal specialty care is provided to infants from birth to age six weeks old who need more intensive testing, monitoring, and treatment of health conditions present at birth or during the neonatal period.
Medically complex infants—such as those born with brain, bone, or movement conditions, regardless of root cause—including those who spent time in the NICU after birth, can benefit from specialized neonatal care from pediatric experts.
What are neonatal specialist appointments like?
A neonatal specialty appointment provides care to newborns up to the age of six weeks who need ongoing monitoring of a medical condition and/or early treatment interventions to help manage the condition and its effects.
At Gillette Children’s, our fellowship-trained pediatric specialists are experts in the treatment of complex and long-term conditions that affect a baby’s developing brain and body. Whether an infant’s condition is caused by a birth injury, infection, or inherited or genetic condition, Gillette Children’s experts offer expert guidance and compassionate support, and assist with planning care and treatment for your baby as they grow. Our experts focus on early diagnosis and early intervention to help children with brain, bone, and movement conditions reach their full potential.
Is neonatal specialty care the same as neonatal intensive care (NICU)?
Neonatal specialty care is different from neonatal intensive care. Neonatal specialty care is about long-term treatment and care planning, whereas a stay in the NICU usually happens immediately after birth when a newborn needs to be medically stabilized.
The specialty care providers at Gillette Children’s can accept referrals right from NICU providers, so your family can experience a seamless transition from acute, stabilizing care to planning your baby’s future.
