Gillette Children’s is committed to serving Greater Minnesota and has clinics throughout the state in locations such as Alexandria, Baxter, Bemidji, Burnsville, Duluth, Mankato, Maple Grove, St. Cloud and Willmar. Gillette also provides access to expert physicians and providers through virtual care appointments.

Saving families miles and stress
Dr. Paulson, you literally drive to see patients around Minnesota and the region. Why is this important to you?
I think that it is important for patients to be able to receive care close to home whenever possible. I want our patients to be able to spend their time doing things they love instead of traveling for healthcare.
Please share your weekly schedule. I understand you regularly drive to Gillette locations in Greater Minnesota.
Nearly all my time is spent in our Greater Minnesota Clinics! I drive many thousands of miles a month to provide care closer to home for our patients. I do still get to the Saint Paul campus for procedures.
Gillette now has a newly branded car for you to drive as you travel to see patients. What is it is like to drive this new car around the state?
I get to drive a new branded car that you can’t miss! I love being able to help spread the word that Gillette has clinics throughout Greater Minnesota and I hope that it means more people who need us can find us. It is wonderful to have a safe option for getting to a clinic. I am turning heads everywhere I go!

What do you hear from families about their experience with Gillette providers in Greater Minnesota?
Patients and their families consistently express their appreciation for having access to clinics closer to home. They talk about all the other things that they get to do that day since they are not driving all day. They appreciate having expert subspecialty care close and appreciate the care coordination that we can assist with when they do need to travel farther.
What have you heard from primary care providers in rural areas?
I love collaborating with local primary care physicians and providers, it is only together that our patients receive excellent care. Primary care physicians and providers have appreciated that we are local, that we are happy to answer questions and to collaborate on mutual patients. I enjoy getting to give lectures to local communities as well.

This is my favorite statistic! I love that this helps highlight the benefits that Greater MN locations bring to our patients. It makes the nebulous concept of “care closer to home” and makes it real. This number is staggering and people can readily understand it. I am always looking for ways to highlight the care we provide and the unseen benefits of our Greater MN clinical sites, this is just one way of bring that into the spotlight. It also reinforces how far many of our patients and families have to drive to receive subspecialty care and how important it is to do what we can to minimize this burden.
